Sri Harimandir Sahib, Amritsar is not only a central religionsplace of the Sikhs, but a symbole of human commenness and equality everybody irrespective of his cast, creed or race can seek spiritual solace and religions fulfilment without any hindrance. it also represents the distinct identity, glory and heritage of the sikhs. To pen-down the philosophy and ideology,the inner and outer beauty and historical legacy of Sri Harimandir Sahib,if not impossible, is difficult at least. It is a subject of experience.
As advised by Sri Guru Amar Dass ji Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji started the digging of Amrit Sarover in 1577 A.D.,which was later on brick lined by Shri Guru Arjan Dev ji on December 15,1588 Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji started the construction of Sri Harimandir Sahib, and Sri Guru Granth Sahib after its compilationwas first installed at shree Harimandir Sahib on August16,1604 A.D. A devout Sikh Baba Budha ji was appointed its first head priest. It has a unique Sikh Architecture. Built at a levl lower than the surrounding land level Sri Harimandir Sahib teaches a lesson of humility cordiality and pridelessness. The four doors of this holy shrine in all the four directions symbolize that the people from all the four directions belonging to every walk of life are equally welcome.
